Self-hosted media server

Your library, premium on every screen.

Quven is a self-hosted media server for your films, shows and documentaries. It was built for the native apps first, on desktop and on mobile, and there's a premium web client for everywhere else. Your media stays on your hardware and plays the way you set it up.

  • No ads or cross-site tracking
  • Free for home use
  • Unlimited household profiles
  • Desktop, web & native mobile apps

A complete, self-hosted media platform: one server, native desktop and mobile clients, and a web fallback, all in one product.

Why Quven

Everything a serious library needs

Full-fidelity playback, a catalogue that makes sense of your files, and premium clients on every screen. You don't give up control of your media to get any of it.

Direct play, untouched

When a client can demux the source, Quven streams the original file as it is: no transcode, no quality loss and no extra load on the server.

Many files, one title

A 4K rip and a 1080p remux of the same film live under one entry; Alternate editions names what differs between them and plays the one you choose.

Generated from the audio, locally

No subtitle track and no sidecar? The server transcribes the dialogue on your own machine and saves it as an ordinary, reusable track. The audio never leaves your hardware.

Automatic matching

Metadata is matched against four catalogues (TMDb, TVDB, OMDb and AniDB), and the matcher copes with release-scene naming in five languages, a year that's off by one, and leet substitutions.

Premium web client

A cinematic browser client with a serious HLS player. It's the fallback for when there's no native app at hand, away from home or on a guest device.

Runs on your hardware

Your media files never leave your machine for local playback. Profile data syncs through Quven so reinstalling a server doesn't erase it.

Native first

The hard parts of playback, done properly.

Browsers can do a lot in 2026, but a native client can use the strongest playback path each device has. On desktop and TV-class outputs that means driving a receiver chain; on phones and tablets it means libmpv's coverage of formats, subtitles and HDR.

  • Direct play with zero transcode when the chosen client can decode
  • HD audio served untouched on desktop and TV-class output paths
  • HDR10 & Dolby Vision handled according to the device display
  • Styled ASS, PGS and VobSub subtitles on native playback paths

Every screen

One server, every screen you own.

Native desktop apps, a premium web client, an Android app for phones, tablets and Android TV, and a native iPhone and iPad app. All of them talk to the one server you host.

Plain comparison

Where Quven fits

Your files on your hardware, playback through native apps first, and prices that track what the cloud actually costs us.

Your server, your network

You can stream at home, or from outside over your own network setup, for free. The paid relay is optional: it's there for people who'd rather not configure anything.

Native-first playback

Everything starts from the native clients, which give you full fidelity and hardware decoding. The web app is a polished fallback for when you need one.

Single integrated platform

One Quven Account links your household, its profiles and your servers. The media stays on your machine, and things like watchlists and resume points follow you through a reinstall.

Set-up

From sign-in to film in three steps

A free Quven Account, a linked server you host, and a profile for each person in the house.

  1. 1

    Create your Quven Account

Sign in or create a free account with your email and password. The same identity works across desktop, web, native mobile and every server you link.

  2. 2

    Connect a server

Pick a server discovered on your LAN, connect to a remote server already linked to your account, or link a new self-hosted server during first run.

  3. 3

    Choose a profile and watch

Create household profiles with optional PINs, pick one, then stream at home or remotely. Watchlists, ratings and resume follow the profile.
